According to Decesion No 80/2013/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister dated December 27th, 2013, holders of foreign passports are exempted from visa requirement for entry into, exit from Phu Quoc Island, with duration of stay no longer than 30 days. In case if holders of foreign passports, before entering Phu Quoc, had transit through other international gate of Vietnam, he/she also enjoy such exemption.
It means that ALL NATIONALITIES are exemted for Vietnam visa to visit Phu Quoc for LESS THAN 30 DAYS when they enter Phu Quoc directly from a third country (by air or by sea) or from an international port of Vietnam.
Criteria to be exempted for Vietnam visa to Phu Quoc Island
Although it is said that all nationalities are exempted for Vietnam visa to Phu Quoc, you still need to meet some criteria as regulated in the following:
- You must have foreign passport, not an international travel document and the passport is valid at least 6 months since your first entry to Vietnam. If your passport is expired soon, renew it before you enter Phu Quoc.
- You have to enter Phu Quoc directly from the third country (by air or by sea) or an international airport of Vietnam.
- You must have return ticket to and from Phu Quoc and your outward destination is not anywhere else in Vietnam.
- You stay in Phu Quoc Island less than 30 days.
- You have not been arrested in Vietnam before.
- You are not in blacklist of Interpol.
Who need to apply Vietnam visa to Phu Quoc Island?
However, there are some cases you will need to apply Vietnam visa to Phu Quoc Island.
- You would like to stay in Phu Quoc for more than 30 days; (1)
- You will visit other destinations in Vietnam before or after travelling Phu Quoc; (2)
- As part of an authorized group tour, you enter Phu Quoc by land (Ha Tien/Kep via Prek Chak – Xa Xia border crossing) or by road via Cambodia (Sihanoukville) or Thailand (Koh Chang). (3)
For case (2) and (3), if you are from nationals who are eligible for Vietnam visa exemption, you do not need to acquire a visa.

Note: Vietnam E-visa is valid for 46 countries as of this time so you should check the list before apply visa. Because E-visa is 1 month and single entry visa, it is only eligible for case (2) and (3) mentioned in the previous section.
