A long term Vietnam visa sponsored by parents
Visa sponsored by parents is a type of visa that allows your children to stay with you in Vietnam. This type of visa is only applicable if your family wants to reside or stay for a long period in Vietnam. There are two ways to get this type of visa.
According to Vietnamese law, a child whose father or mother is Vietnamese is subjected to a Vietnam visa exemption or temporary residence card when he or she enters Vietnam. The child can apply for either a 3-year residence card or 5-year visa exemption. In the second case, he or she is required to leave Vietnam every 6 months while residence cardholders can stay inside the country until expiry.
Children under 18 year old can apply for a temporary residence card of Vietnam in case either their father or mother holds valid Vietnamese temporary residence cards. In this case, you should prepare the following documents:
- 4 recent 3x4 photos
- Certified biography by a valid authority in his or her permanent residence.
- Diplomatic note of a valid authority
- Guarantee form from sponsors who live permanently in Vietnam, which is certified by Ward or Commune people’s committee. Sponsors are required to provide a copy of ID and household registration.
- A copy of parents’ ID
To wrap up, for a short-term visa for kids, we recommend parents to apply for visa on arrival (if you travel to Vietnam by air) and E-visa (if you are on the eligible list) since the visa process and requirements are simple. For a long-term visa for children, depending on the parents’ residential situation, the children can apply for a temporary residence card or be subjected to a visa exemption. In any case, a temporary residence card will allow the children to stay inside Vietnam until the expiration.
Note: Vietnam visa fee for children is applied equally to adults.
