Once expats plan to settle their life in Vietnam, it is crucial that they must find a place for a comfortable living but affordable budget. Vietnam do offers a wide range of rental options depends upon the facility, furniture in the house and its location. Basically, there are 3 main types of urban housing that expats should consider:

Types of rental

Row house or street house:

In common, there are 4 floors in this of kind of house and it is true that its length is much longer than its width. These houses are located on the main streets or alley and are situated side by side. Practically, it is used mostly for business: shops, banks, restaurants…. If you intend to get it for staying, do consider about the noise from the streets.

Detached house:

This type of house is on a plot of land and almost has a private driveway with surrounding garden and boundary fence. Normally, there are 4 floors and facades that are open to the surrounding environment. Unfortunately, finding this house in densely populated cities like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh seems to be a tough task.

Apartment:

It is a room inside a building with two or more levels with pathways, staircases and an infrastructure system that is used by many households. As a result of huge immigration and high demand from locals and foreigners, living in apartment is considered to be the best option. There are more and more buildings are builted over the years with different standard from the luxury ones to the normal ones. When you choose to rent an apartment, there are 2 options: serviced or normal. Serviced apartments are furnished, and generally offer amenities such as a reception desk, gym, restaurants and housekeeping. On the other hand, normal apartments will save you much money, but you have to deal with the landlord and establish a connection to the utilities yourself. A normal apartment is probably the best option for a long stay for those who lives a simple life.

How much does it cost?

Estimated pricing

Houses: Between US$800 and US$ 2,500 a month.
Serviced apartments: Between US$1,000 and US$3,000 a month.
Normal apartments: Between US$400 and US$1,000 a month.
Room: Between US$ 200 to US$ 400

Please consider these prices as an estimation ONLY, as housing prices vary from city to city and from neighborhood to neighborhood.

How to find accommodation in Vietnam?
