Chances are if you are expats living in Vietnam, there is no way to run away from getting a visa renewal every few months. While visa renewal allows you to apply inside Vietnam, it only gives you permission to stay no longer than 3 months.

In this article, we will give you full detailed information on how to get Vietnam visa run to Thailand.
First thing first, the flight from Vietnam, either Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi, to Bangkok is crazily cheap. So in total, you don’t have to spend too much for Vietnam visa run trip to Thailand. Given that there are many airlines to choose: Airasia, Vietjet... It is even more likely you get the best deal even in high season.
Secondly, a visa run to Thailand can easily turn into a paradise of beaches, Buddhist temples and a whole lot of cultural and social discoveries. Some visa runners stay in the airport to get their return visa immediately, but why should you? Why don’t turn this seemingly time-consuming process into something fun and exciting? Where else to “run” to if it is not Amazing Thailand, one of the most visited destinations in South East Asia?
Since Vietnam and Thailand don’t share the same border, there is no chance to get visa on arrival at the border. Your only choice is to fly from Vietnam to Thailand and get the visa at the Immigration office at the airport.
So, how is this process done?
First, make sure that you are on the list of eligible countries for visa on arrival to Thailand or granted visa-free travel to Thailand. Just in case of Thai visa requested, you have to present your passport with over 180 days validity, a confirmed return ticket by air (travelling overland by bus, train.. is not accepted.), visa fee in Thai currency, and last but not least, the Transaction Reference Number (TRN) for online application. In some cases, you have to provide your tourism purposes and appropriate funds of at least 10,000 THB per person and 20,000 THB per family.
You have to print out required documents, such as the TRN and your return ticket, and bring them to the airport on Thailand side to get the visa.
Secondly, you have to apply for visa on arrival before heading back to Vietnam. You can submit your online visa application form on our website. A service fee is required to finish Vietnam visa application. After 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 5 working days (for business visa), you will get Vietnam visa Letter of Approval. You need a copy of this letter to get on plane and then get Vietnam visa stamped at the airport.
The cheapest way to go to Thailand is to fly to Bangkok. You can go either from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi or Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh. At the airport, you will get an Exit stamp that allows you to leave Vietnam.
When arriving at Bangkok, at Suvarnabhumi Airport, go to the Immigration check-in counter and present your prepared documents and wait for your documents to be processed. After getting visa stamp, you can stay in the airport to wait for your flight back to Vietnam or stay in Bangkok for a few days depend upon your interest.
Leaving Thailand, make sure that you receive an Exit stamp on your passport. Upon arrival at the Vietnam International Airport, go to the Immigration check-in counter and present your passport, a copy of Letter of Approval, 2 passport-sized photos, visa application form and pay the stamping fee.

The most convenient way to travel to Thailand from Vietnam is by air. Since the route between the two countries is operating by many cheap airlines, you will likely to get the best deal.
From Hanoi, you can fly directly to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A round-trip ticket to Bangkok can be as low as $80 and to Chiang Mai is around $100 Air Asia and Bangkok Airways often offer valuable deals for their routes.
From Ho Chi Minh, there are direct flights to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. All of the airports are facilitated to accept visa on arrival. A round-trip ticket costs around $100 to any of the 3 destinations. Vietjet Air, Jetstar Pacific Airlines, and Air Asia are 3 airlines offering cheapest deals and packages.
