Vietnam has introduced a new pilot immigration procedure requiring certain foreign travelers to complete an online arrival declaration before entering the country. According to the latest announcement from the Vietnam Immigration Department, this regulation officially takes effect on April 16, 2026, and will initially be implemented at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

The system is being tested at Tan Son Nhat first and may later be expanded to airports across Vietnam.

Who Must Complete the Online Arrival Declaration?

The new requirement applies to:

  • Travelers holding a foreign passport
  • Passengers with a valid visa to enter Vietnam

Who Is Exempt?

The following travelers are currently exempt from the online declaration requirement:

  • Vietnamese passport holders
  • International transit passengers connecting through airports in Vietnam without entering the country

What Travelers Need to Do?

Passengers subject to this regulation must:

1. Submit personal arrival information online before their flight to Vietnam
2. Receive a QR code after successful submission
3. Present the QR code during immigration procedures upon arrival

Travelers are advised to complete the declaration in advance to avoid delays at the airport.

Vietnam authorities introduced this measure to:

  • Strengthen immigration management and border control
  • Speed up entry procedures
  • Reduce congestion at airport immigration counters

How to Complete Vietnam Online Arrival Declaration (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Access the Official Declaration Website

Within 3 days before your flight, visit the online immigration declaration portal:https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/

Then, click on the section "Create & Submit Pre-arrival information" to declare.

Step 2: Enter the Verification Code

Input the CAPTCHA/security code shown on screen to continue.

Step 3: Select Your Nationality

Choose your country of citizenship from the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Fill in Personal Information

Complete the required details exactly as shown in your passport, including:

  • Passport number & Date of Expiry
  • Full name & Gender
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality & Country code
  • Phone number
  • Email address
Additionally, you need to provide your visa information (visa type, number, and expiry date) and your expected arrival date.

Step 5: Fill in Trip Information


The compulsory information you need to fill in includes:
  • Mode of travel
  • Flight Code
  • Border Gate
  • Type of Accommodation in Vietnam
  • Accommodation Address

Step 6: Review and Submit

Double-check all information before submission.

Step 7: Save Your QR Code

After submitting, save or screenshot the QR code and present it upon arrival in Vietnam.
